We are a family owned and operated farm located in Melville, NY. Come to our greenhouse in the spring, where we offer a variety of flowers, annuals and perennials for sale to brighten your home or yard. Our spring events are always family friendly, and our experienced staff is here to help you with your questions.
For the young ones, we offer field trips tailored to ages 3 to 9. We also offer plants for school fundraising efforts. Finally, Schmitt’s is known as the #1 location for sod on Long Island. Sod wholesale, retail and installation is available. Contact us to learn more.

Fall is our favorite season here at F&W Schmitt’s Family Farm. Why, you might ask? Because it’s a continuation of a decades old tradition wherein parents bring their children to pick their own pumpkins, Bill, Ferdie and the other farmers give hayrides, and families have a time to reconnect as the long hot summer comes to a close. Continue your family tradition or start a new one, this fall at F&W Schmitt’s Family Farm in Melville.
PUMPKIN PICKING
The Best Pumpkin Picking on Long Island! One of the joys of the fall season is picking out your very own pumpkin that’s perfect for you. It’s a rite of passage, and a fall tradition that can’t be beat. The quest for the perfect pumpkin is one that befalls both young and old. In order to make the perfect jack-o-lantern, you need the perfect pumpkin. In order to make the best porch decoration, you need the perfect pumpkin. And in order to bake the most delicious fall pies, you need the perfect pumpkin. *Pumpkins are an additional charge and NOT included with admission.
DAYTIME CORN MAZE
Enjoy hours of family fun in this 7-acre corn maze, open on weekends, Columbus Day and holidays. Try to race your friends and family through the maze, or take your time enjoying the adventure.

FARM ANIMALS & PONY RIDES
Does your child have an affinity for furry creatures? Bring him or her down to the farm to watch the animals! We have goats, bunnies, chickens and more. We also have pony rides which is sure to create great fall memories.
HAYRIDES
Hay rides are fun for the whole family! We all remember doing fall hayrides when we were kids. Let’s give our children those same cherished memories.

FALL FIELDS TRIPS
During your student’s fall field trip on our Long Island farm, he or she will be immersed in an authentic farm environment to learn about pumpkins and vegetables. Each class will take home a grade-level-appropriate activity that can serve as a follow-up to these field trip highlights:
WELCOME
Your group will disembark from the bus and walk up the hill where you will be greeted by one of the Schmitt’s farm team members.
WAGON
Your group will be taken on a tractor-drawn wagon where a team member will give an overview of the farm and the work that is taking place. The wagon will make stops along the way.
PUMPKIN PICKING
Students will have the opportunity to pick a pumpkin right off the vine in the pumpkin field.
VEGETABLE PICKING
Available until the first frost, students will see many of our vegetables and learn about the steps involved in planting and care. Students are welcome to pick these at the teachers’ discretion.
LEARN ABOUT OUR CORN MAZE
While seated on the wagon, the students will learn about the special corn we use to make our corn maze.
PLAYGROUND
If time and weather permit, we have a playground for the students to enjoy, and farm animals for the students to see.
